Project PLURICELL

The project is interdisciplinary extension, stabilization of research capacity and the introduction of new management system, evaluation and ethical principles into an existing platform of biology of human pluripotent stemcells (hPSC) at the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University in Brno. Activities of the centre will focus on the study of biology of hPSC in the area of identifying obstacles of their use for treatment of serious diseases – such as genome instability or the emergence of genetic abnormalities. Instability of the genome of hPSC will be studied from the perspective of culture conditions, the regulation of their self-renewal / differentiation using synthetic molecules and molecular mechanisms of DNA damage and repair.

The purpose of the Centre is to:
A / attract and retain outstanding experts in each of the above mentioned research directions, with the aim to contribute to transfer of the knowledge from research on hPSC to clinical medicine,
B / enhance the development of scientific bases of the research of hPSC in the Czech Republic through educational activities of the centre, and
C / increase the international competitiveness of the scientific area.
