The city is situated in the middle of central Moravia. For its unique atmosphere, it isa popular center of international conferences and festivals. Olomouc is, next to Brno,the second historical and political center of Moravia. Nowadays the Palacky universityis situated in Olomouc and also the archdiocese. The city is the spiritual andeducational centre. An important monument is the Column of The Holy Trinity. Thispillar, erected in the 18th century, reaches a height of 35 meters. This unique piece ofarchitecture is characterized as „Olomouc baroque“. The column is decorated withmany statues and sculptures and is the largest in central Europe.
