INTRODUCTION

The IInd Clinic of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, and Faculty Hospital in Brno - Bohunice, were founded in 1990 after division of the original Ophthalmological Clinic of Faculty Hospital in Pekařská street (present Faculty Hospital of St. Anna).

The clinic provides complex diagnostic, therapeutical and surgical ophthalmological care. It is specialized in ophthalmic microsurgery, particularly in the surgery of the anterior eye segment, implantations of intraocular lens after the cataract extraction, corneal transplantations, vitreoretinal surgery, and traumatology.

As a clinical workplace, it also shares in pre-graduate and post-graduate education of physicians and nursing staff. It participates in scientific and research activities as well.

The out-patients´department involves a diabetological consulting centre for patients with ophthalmological complications of diabetes and a glaucoma consulting room for the diagnostics and therapy for glaucoma..

The clinic is equipped with the top diagnostic and microsurgical technique, and thanks to skilled staff it belongs to the outstanding workplace of this type not only within the Czech Republic. There a complex diagnostics and therapy for the diseases of eye, adnexa and orbit have been performed. Nowadays, the clinic secures the basic diagnostic and therapeutical care of patients from the hinterland, consiliary care for those from the South-Moravia and superconsiliary care for the whole Moravia.

Prof. MUDr. Eva Vlková, CSc. has been the head of the Clinic since its foundation.
