Rules of Studies
All foreign students have to respect the Rules of study and examinations, as well as the Rules of halls of residence and the Disciplinary
rules of the Masaryk University, Faculty of Medicine.
Organization of Study and Assessment
Both six-year programs, i.e. general medicine and dentistry, are divided into three cycles. Teaching programs are organized on a yearly
basis during the first three years of study while a semester scheme takes over from the fourth year. Both study programs are nearly
identical in the first cycle. More differences appear in the second half of the program particularly in clinical studies, in both the
selection of courses taught and their scope.
Each course of the program is assigned a certain number of credits depending on the scope and difficulty. The number of 120 credits is
prescribed to complete each two-year cycle of study of medicine. There is a great deal of flexibility within each cycle as to in which
semester courses can be taken. Each course is concluded by some kind of assessment. For the main courses, assessment takes the form of an
examination before a board of examiners, while other courses are concluded by less formal exam or other forms of assessment. In the third
cycle, fundamental courses and qualifying state examinations concludes internships. Teaching of clinical and some preclinical courses takes
place in two Faculty General Hospitals, in the Faculty Children's Hospital and the Faculty Maternity Hospital.
Changing study programme from general medicine to dentistry or vice versa during studies may be possible upon Dean's approval. In such a
case the student would be transferred to the same year or semester of the program chosen and required to take courses that were not covered
by his/her original program, and to pass the corresponding examinations.
