LF MU and FN Brno Build a Joint Biobank of Clinical Samples
The Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University and University Hospital Brno are establishing a joint biobank of biological samples. The initiative will help advance biomedical research.

1. Open-Doors Days
Earlier in the year, the corridors of the university campus, as tradition holds, were filled with participants of the Open Days. They appreciated not only the modern facilities and equipment of the faculty but also the kind and friendly approach of both the lecturers and students, who at their program stand introduced the studies themselves and university life in the South Moravian metropolis with irreplaceable authenticity. 2. Increased capacity for non-medical study programs
In February, the Czech Ministry of Health presented a government program ensuring expanded capacity for education in non-medical health professions. The Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University responded by increasing capacity in the General Nursing, Midwifery, Radiology Assistance, Emergency Medical Services, and Nutritional Therapy study programs. 3. MjUNI
To find out what to do to strengthen health, to learn how to operate imaging devices, or to try being a midwife. This and much more was experienced by the participants of MjUNI – Masaryk University’s Junior University, which the Faculty of Medicine once again organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Pharmacy. 4. Representation Ball
The Representation Ball of the Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine and the Medical Students’ Association at the end of February delivered unforgettable experiences at the Brno Bobycentre. An evening full of dance, music, and awards for outstanding teachers did not disappoint again. MORE HERE.
5. Brain Week
Masaryk University is increasingly getting involved in Brain Week as well. This year it advertised a comprehensive five-day program, in which the Faculty of Medicine also played a significant role. MORE HERE.
6. Werner von Siemens Prize
In the prestigious Werner von Siemens Prize competition, Dáša Bohačiaková from the Institute of Histology and Embryology of Masaryk University’s Faculty of Medicine stood out. She has long been involved in work with stem cells and cerebral organoids. MORE HERE.
7. Deans’ Awards
This year, 55 students received the Deans’ Award in Czech study programs and the Excellence Award in English-taught programs across several categories. MORE HERE.
8. Inaugural MEDay
Measuring BMI and consulting one’s eating habits, and getting skin-care advice ahead of the summer sun season, as well as checking visual acuity at the Department of Optometry and Orthoptics, are just some of the activities employees and students at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Medicine could undertake during the inaugural MEDay—a health-focused day whose program took place on the first Monday of April on the campus grounds. 9. Day of Teachers
The Faculty of Medicine again opened its doors to high school teachers! In March, the fourth edition of the Day of Teachers was held, during which they received detailed information about studying at the faculty, the admissions process, and the requirements for their students. They also toured modern teaching spaces and attended expert lectures.
10. New teaching spaces at the Institute of Health Sciences
New teaching spaces were formally opened at the Institute of Health Sciences. The classrooms, located on the third and fifth floors of building F01B1, are primarily intended for education in General Nursing, but also support other non-medical health professions. MORE HERE.
11. Expansion of Education in Palliative Care
The Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine is expanding education in palliative care. The new courses are part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the ranks of palliative medicine professionals in the Czech Republic. They teach students how to communicate about serious diagnoses and to accompany patients at the end of life. MORE HERE.
12. First Season of Breakfasts with a Scientist
The regular grant-breakfast format was transformed at the start of 2024 into Breakfasts with a Scientist. Open to a broad community of students and academics with an interest in science, the first season concluded in May 2025. MORE HERE.
13. Summer Camp – Juniors’ Academy of the MU Faculty of Medicine
How does the brain work, what can the human body do, and what is physiology anyway? For a week, forty children aged 10–15 from Brno experienced it firsthand at the Junior Academy Camp of the MU Faculty of Medicine.
14. First Graduates in Embryology
Students at the Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine successfully completed the historically first graduates of the study program Bioanalytical Laboratory Diagnostics in Healthcare – Embryology. It remains unique in Europe. MORE HERE.
15. Memorandum on the Preclinical Center
Signed on August 28, 2025, the deans of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University, Martin Repko and Tomáš Kašparovský, affirmed their cooperation on the establishment of Masaryk University’s Preclinical Center. The memorandum opens a new phase in the development of biomedical research at Masaryk University and will be fully operational in 2027. MORE HERE.
16. Science Festival and Night of Scientists
The Brno Exhibition Centre again came alive with science on the first weekend of September. Masaryk University, including the Faculty of Medicine, was present at the Science and Technology Festival once more. 17. Alumni Day
The third edition of the Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine Alumni Day attracted over two hundred participants. About half of them received a commemorative diploma from the dean. MORE HERE.
18. Deans’ Barbecue
Good food and drinks, music, leisure activities, and plenty of smiles and good spirits. The start of the academic year was once again brightened by the Deans’ Barbecue. MORE HERE.
19. Mental Well-being Day
Stress, work and personal responsibilities, the constant stream of emails and meetings—all of this is part of everyday life today. We often strive for maximum performance, but we forget about the most important thing—the own mental well-being. This is why the third edition of Mental Well-being Day was held at the end of September, an event focused on psychological support and care for employees of the dean’s office of the Faculty of Medicine MU. 20. Medics in Rome
Several students of General Medicine traveled to Rome to deepen their knowledge of medical terminology and the history of medicine. The unusual trip was also attended by the Latin instructors. MORE HERE.
21. JobMED
For the third time, hundreds of students at the MU Faculty of Medicine met with representatives from dozens of hospitals and healthcare institutions from across the country. All to allow future doctors and healthcare professionals to clarify in person what awaits them in practice with specific employers—from salary conditions and benefits to the onboarding of graduates and new staff. 22. Induction of first-year students
On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, a ceremonial induction of first-year students at Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine took place in the B22/116 auditorium. After taking the induction oath, students photographed memories not only on the iconic bridge in front of the faculty but also at the new photo wall in the corridor. MORE HERE.
23. Open Day
On November 8, the Faculty of Medicine opened its doors to prospective students through the university-wide Open Day. This year it welcomed a record-breaking seven hundred applicants and nearly five hundred accompanying parents. The program offered practical demonstrations at SIMU, the Institute of Anatomy, and operating theatres, and presented all study programs of the faculty. MORE HERE.
24. SIMPO and Akutně.cz Conference
Under the aegis of the Simulation Center team, another editions of two significant conferences—SIMPO and Akutně.cz. This year’s SIMPO simulation symposium marked its fourth edition while also commemorating the first half-century of SIMU’s operation. MORE HERE. The Akutně.cz conference brought important topics from anesthesiology, intensive care, and emergency medicine. The seventeenth edition attracted more than twelve hundred participants. MORE HERE.
25. Unveiling of the Body Donor Memorial
The Faculty of Medicine has erected a memorial to body donors. It will serve as a place for the final resting of those who chose to donate their bodies after death for medical education. Its construction was also supported by students. MORE HERE.

After a year-long reconstruction, Masaryk University has received final approval for Pavilion C03 of the Faculty of Medicine – a new GMP facility for the future development of gene and cell therapies within the CREATIC Centre of Excellence.
