LF MU and FN Brno Build a Joint Biobank of Clinical Samples
The Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University and University Hospital Brno are establishing a joint biobank of biological samples. The initiative will help advance biomedical research.
The second edition of the CREATIC conference confirmed that Brno today ranks among the prominent European partners in the development and manufacturing of advanced therapies (ATMPs). Leading experts from universities, hospitals, research infrastructures and regulatory bodies came to the city to share experiences and jointly explore ways to bring innovations to patients safely and sustainably. The motto “Connecting minds in advanced therapies” was more than a slogan — over two intensive days it turned into practical collaboration and new connections.
From the discussions it was clear that open sharing of know‑how, data and standards accelerates the entire ATMP cycle: from early research through clinical development to GMP manufacturing and integration into care. At the same time, it became evident that without systematic dialogue with regulators, competent authorities and payers it is impossible to ensure fair and long‑term sustainable patient access to these therapies. The connection of science, clinical practice, manufacturing capacity and health policy is precisely the domain where Brno — in part thanks to CREATIC — is asserting itself increasingly strongly.
During the conference CREATIC showed it has much to offer: top‑level expertise; an ongoing refurbishment of production facilities that will meet GMP requirements; strong links to clinical centres; and active international collaborations. This combination makes sense for researchers and clinicians as well as for partners across Europe who see Brno as a reliable partner for joint projects.
We greatly appreciate the support and openness of everyone who is already developing and manufacturing ATMPs in Europe today. Their experience is an inspiration for our region and a commitment to keep pace with the highest standards of quality and safety. Shared learning and inspiration speed up the journey of modern therapies to patients with rare and serious diseases. The CREATIC Conference 2025 demonstrated that Brno is a place where the European dialogue on advanced therapies turns into concrete action.

After a year-long reconstruction, Masaryk University has received final approval for Pavilion C03 of the Faculty of Medicine – a new GMP facility for the future development of gene and cell therapies within the CREATIC Centre of Excellence.
