With deep and immense sorrow, we received the news of the tragic Air India plane crash in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, which claimed hundreds of lives, including several medical students and healthcare workers residing in the medical dormitory in the Ranip-Méghánínagar area. This loss is painful and almost incomprehensible—lives that were just beginning, full of hope and dreams of a medical career, were suddenly and tragically cut short. The particular gravity of this event is underscored by the fact that among the victims are our colleagues and future colleagues who were meant to write the next chapters of medicine.

Words cannot express the depth of this pain and loss. Now, our thoughts are with everyone who feels the weight of this sorrow, and we share it with those who are now going through difficult times.

“When the future of medicine dies, a piece of hope dies for all of us. I am deeply saddened by the young people who were meant to help others and became victims of this tragedy, which resonates throughout society. Their empty seats in lecture halls will forever remind us of this tragic event. I extend my condolences to the families of all the victims,” says Prof. MUDr. Martin Repko, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University.

The hearts of the entire academic community of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University unite in silent sympathy with the families of the deceased, their friends, and all those affected by this unfortunate event. We also keep in our thoughts those who were injured and who are now fighting to recover.
