The second meeting of the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Medicine MU in 2026 took place on 30 April 2026 at the SIMU building.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dean Repko took the opportunity to congratulate Prof. Hejna, who was present, on his election as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, Charles University. He is due to assume office on 1 September 2026.
Vice-Dean Pokorná presented the first two agenda items to the members of the Scientific Board: a proposal to extend the accreditation of the study programme Bioanalytical Laboratory Diagnostics in Healthcare – Embryologist (Master’s degree, full-time, Czech language), and a proposal to introduce its English-language version entitled Specialist for Clinical Embryology and Assisted Reproduction Technology (Master’s degree, full-time, English language). Both proposals were approved by the Scientific Board.
This was followed by the discussion of two qualification procedures:

A proposal to appoint Assoc. Prof. Tomáš Kazda, MD, PhD, Associate Professor at the Department of Radiation Oncology of the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University and the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute, and Associate Professor in Ondřej Slabý’s research group at CEITEC, as Professor in Oncology. The proposal was presented by the Chair of the Evaluation Committee, Prof. Jaroslav Štěrba, MD, PhD. The candidate delivered a lecture entitled “Radiotherapy as one of the pillars in the development of multidisciplinary neuro-oncological care in Brno.”

A proposal to appoint Zdeněk Chovanec, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor at the First Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine MU and St Anne’s University Hospital Brno, as Associate Professor in Surgery. The proposal was presented by the Chair of the Habilitation Committee, Prof. Zdeněk Kala, MD, CSc. The candidate delivered a lecture entitled “Diagnostic and therapeutic management of bronchogenic carcinoma and postoperative complications.”
The Scientific Board of the Faculty of Medicine MU proposed the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Tomáš Kazda, MD, PhD, as Professor in Oncology and Zdeněk Chovanec, MD, PhD, as Associate Professor in Surgery. Both proposals will be submitted to the Rector of Masaryk University.
In conclusion, Dean Repko thanked the members of the Scientific Board for their participation and informed them that the next in-person meeting will take place again at the SIMU building on 21 May 2026.
