Starting the day with a good breakfast and coffee is even better when accompanied by food for thought — ideas worth reflecting on and inspiring personal stories. For the second year in a row, Breakfast with a Scientist has made exactly that possible. Since its launch in early 2024, the series has offered a monthly opportunity to meet informally, discuss science and life with inspiring members of the Faculty of Medicine, and start the day together.

During its second season in the 2025/2026 academic year, Tomáš Kašpárek, Vice-Dean for Research, Doctoral Studies and Organisational Development at the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, welcomed a total of ten distinguished guests as the event host. Nine meetings followed the traditional morning format, while the April session took the form of an afternoon coffee break. Although both the guests and the audience change, the friendly and inspiring atmosphere of the gatherings in the campus library remains the same.

Among this season's guests was Alemeh Zamani, who shared her journey from her native Iran through Japan to the Department of Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine. Vladimír Sobota from the Department of Physiology spoke about connecting scientists and promoting science through the Czexpats in Science and Zeptej se vědce (Ask a Scientist) initiatives. Martin Loučka from the Institute of Medical Psychology and Ethics discussed the value of international experience. During the spring semester, the institute also hosted psychologist Marci Lobel from Stony Brook University as a Fulbright Scholar. In April, she became the very first guest from outside the faculty to participate in Breakfast with a Scientist.

The audience is just as diverse as the guest list, bringing together students, teachers, researchers, and clinicians. “The aim of these breakfasts is not only to make one morning each month more enjoyable for our researchers, but also to strengthen connections across the faculty's scientific community. We are therefore already inviting everyone to the first meeting of the third season, which will take place on 22 September. Our guest will be Pavlína Danhofer from the Department of Paediatric Neurology at Brno University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University,” says Jana Sedláková, Head of the Research and Quality Office, which organises the series together with the Project Support Office.
