Students shape the future of nutrition and health: the 2026 conference was a great success
On 23 June 2026, the 17th annual student conference Nutrition, Food and Health took place at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University in Brno.
On 23 June 2026, the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University in Brno hosted the 17th annual student conference Nutrition, Food and Health. Organised by the Institute of Public Health in cooperation with the Czech Society for Nutrition and academic institutions, the event provided a platform for students to present their bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate research.
The conference has long maintained a strong interdisciplinary character, creating space for sharing knowledge across the fields of nutrition, food science and health sciences. It brings together students and experts from leading Brno universities. In addition to Masaryk University, participating institutions included Mendel University in Brno, the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno, and Brno University of Technology; this year, the University of Defence also joined the scientific programme for the first time. The conference once again confirmed the high standard of student research and offered numerous stimulating discussions on current topics in nutrition, public health, new food technologies and sports medicine.
Throughout the day, presentations addressed topics such as the role of nutrition in the prevention of chronic diseases, the issue of the gut microbiome, the impact of ultra-processed foods on mental health, the analysis of food additives, and food safety and quality. Considerable attention was also drawn to contributions focusing on regional foods in school catering, sports nutrition, military food rations, and the use of natural preservatives in food practice.
This year’s conference received very positive feedback from both participants and academic guarantors. It once again confirmed its importance as a platform supporting young talent and interdisciplinary collaboration among universities. The meeting contributed to the exchange of experience, the establishment of new professional contacts, and the presentation of innovative approaches with potential applications in healthcare, education and the food industry.
