Part of the visit of the Ambassador of South Korea to the premises of FM MU was a meeting with faculty management representatives and Korean students. That was followed by a tour of the University Campus Bohunice, finishing at the FM MU's Simulation Centre (SIMU).
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Tae Jin Kim and his First Secretary were received in his office on 13th April 2022 by the Dean of the FM MU prof. MUDr. Martin Repko, Ph.D. The Ambassador was also welcomed by the Vice-Dean for International Affairs and International Students, doc. MUDr. Lubomír Křivan and the Head of the International Studies Office Bc. Helena Melicharová. 3 Korean students of FM MU were also present at the meeting.
Dean Repko introduced the faculty, Head of the ISO Melicharová answered questions about the admission procedure and Vice-Dean Křivan spoke about the large group of foreign students at our faculty and about life in Brno.
The ambassador said that in Korea, studies of Medicine are traditionally among the most sought-after fields of study, and the capacity of the universities there does not cover the large demand of students. He pointed out that, with the exception of exchange students, a total of 9 students were studying in the regular study programme at MU, of which 8 were at the Faculty of Medicine. He was interested in the way the students found out about MU and wanted to know how the students live in Brno.
The students positively evaluated both the quality of teaching and the social opportunities that our city offers.
The Ambassador and the Dean expressed their relief at the relaxation of epidemiological measures and hope that the opportunity for travel and live contact will again lead to an increase in the number of Korean students in the first year. They also agreed to start a collaboration with a Korean university focused on medical research and biotechnology development.
Subsequently, Mrs. Melicharová and Vice-Dean Křivan gave the Korean delegation a tour of the campus, the Department of Anatomy of the FM MU, and ended the tour at SIMU.
The Ambassador was very pleasantly surprised by the concentration of the Institutes at FM MU, the University Hospital Brno and SIMU in one place. He intends to provide our faculty with space for publishing information about LF MU on the website of the Korean Embassy.
On Monday, 11 March, Brain Week, an event that focuses on brain research and neuroscience, started. For the first time, the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital in Brno joined the event in cooperation.
Just like last year, the last Saturday in February belonged to MJUNI - Masaryk Junior University. And just like last year, the Faculty of Medicine joined forces with the Faculty of Pharmacy, thanks to which the participants had a choice of thirteen programmes.
