The 64th exhibition of medicinal plants continues at the Medicinal Herbs Centre. The exhibition area is the entire garden, where the National Poppy Collection has an important presence.
In June and July, the poppy flower bed is not only red. It also shines yellow, pink or white. Species of the poppy family, in Latin Papaveraceae, bloom. Thanks to its extensive assortment, the Medicinal Herbs Centre of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University has a National Collection of this family.
The National Collection of Poppies blooms continuously at the Medicinal Herbs Centre from about the end of March until frost. During the traditional exhibition of medicinal plants, which this year lasts until July 5, annual poppies such as the wolf poppy, the long pod poppy, the prickly poppy and the California-poppy are usually in full bloom. Among the perennials, the orange Atlas poppy and the Chinese celandine poppy can now be seen blooming at the Medicinal Herbs Centre.
The Medicinal Herbs Centre is currently an open-air exhibition area. Visitors are attracted by the blooming garden, the peaceful environment and the accompanying panel exhibition. This year, it focuses on plants used and abused by humans. It is called Poppy, Cannabis, Drugs – Helpers and Seducers of Humanity. The opening hours of the Medicinal Herbs Centre are during the 64th exhibition, i.e. until July 5, daily from 9 am to 6 pm. It will also be open on weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm, and on Wednesdays until 6 pm.
The Medicinal Herbs Centre specializes in the non-commercial cultivation of pharmacologically interesting, dietary, aromatic, dyeing and otherwise useful plants, as well as poisonous plants. It is located at Údolní 74, Brno, near the terminal tram No. 4, and the bus stop 68 Náměstí Míru.
Nearly 800 students successfully completed their studies at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University this year. Graduates included students of General Medicine, Dentistry and the Embryologist programme, as well as graduates of bachelor's and follow-up master's programmes in healthcare. The graduating class also included students from the Faculty's English-taught degree programmes.
Tradition, Anatomy, and International Collaboration. This year, Danish medical students have once again come to Brno to attend a two-week course in topographical anatomical dissection, offering them a unique hands-on experience in anatomical preparation, an opportunity to explore the culture and environment of Moravia, and a reminder of the invaluable role of body donation in medical education.
