On April 24, 2025, the third meeting of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University took place this year in the SIMU building. The council members discussed proposals for significant appointments, expressed gratitude to the long-standing head of the clinic, and honoured the memory of Emerita Professor Lenka Špinarová.
On April 24, 2025, the third meeting of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine took place this year in the premises of the SIMU building. At the beginning, Dean Repko informed the members of the Scientific Council about the ceremonial event marking the completion of the rough construction of the MUNI BioPharma Hub, which took place on Monday, April 14, 2025, attended by many prominent figures from political and cultural life. Considering the intensive pace of construction work, he expressed the expectation that the building will be completed according to plan, i.e., by June of next year.
On the occasion of a change in the Head of the Department of Internal Hematology and Oncology position at the Faculty of Medicine, MU, and University Hospital Brno, Dean Repko thanked Prof. MUDr. Jiří Mayer, CSc., for his excellent work, wished him much personal and professional satisfaction, and expressed his pleasure that they will continue to collaborate professionally.
Subsequently, Vice-Dean Kala introduced two qualification proceedings under discussion:
A proposal to appoint Associate Professor MUDr. Eva Vlčková, Ph.D., an Associate Professor at the Neurology Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine, MU, and University Hospital Brno, as a full Professor in Neurology. The proposal was presented by the Chairwoman of the Evaluation Committee, Prof. MUDr. Irena Rektorová, Ph.D. The candidate gave a lecture to the members of the Scientific Council on the topic „Symptomatic and palliative care in neurological diseases.“
A proposal to appoint MUDr. Ladislav Kočan, PhD., Assistant Professor and Deputy Head for Educational Activities at the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the East Slovak Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Košice, as an Associate Professor in the field of Anesthesiology, Intensive Medicine, and Algesiogy. The proposal was presented by the Chair of the Habilitation Committee, Prof. MUDr. Petr Štourač, Ph.D., MBA, LL.M., FESAIC. The candidate afterwards gave a lecture to the members of the Scientific Council on the topic „The role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of septic conditions, respiratory failure due to viral infection, and painful syndromes.“
The Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine, MU, proposed to appoint Associate Professor MUDr. Eva Vlčková, Ph.D., as Professor in Neurology and MUDr. Ladislav Kočan, PhD., as Associate Professor in Anesthesiology, Intensive Medicine, and Algesiogy. Both proposals will be submitted to the Rector of Masaryk University.
Dean Repko shared the sad news of the recent passing of Prof. MUDr. Lenka Špinarová, Ph.D., FESC, emeritus Head of the 1st Department of Internal Cardioangiology at the University Hospital St. Anne in Brno and Faculty of Medicine, MU, who was also a long-standing member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine. With all present, he honoured her memory with a moment of silence.
In conclusion, Dean Repko thanked the members of the Scientific Council for their participation and informed them about the next meeting, scheduled for May 22, 2025.
The third annual Alumni Day at the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, attracted over two hundred participants. Half of them received a symbolic commemorative diploma from the Dean.
Petr Vaňhara is behind the biobank project, thanks to which scientists can study the processes behind the growth of cancer cells. In cooperation with the Centre for Precision Medicine in Brno, the findings are being transferred into clinical practice.
