International Epilepsy Day falls on the second Monday in February every year. We talked to Professor Milan Brázdil, Head of the First Neurological Clinic at St. Anne's University Hospital in Brno and Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine, about the disease, which affects 70-100 thousand patients in the Czech Republic.

The aim of this survey is to identify the main barriers and motivators to participation in studies of COVID-19 or other vaccines among European adults. The survey consists of a ten-minute anonymous online questionnaire.

The international project of the European Centre of Excellence CREATIC has been successful in the Horizon Europe Teaming for Excellence call for proposals. This is an unprecedented success for Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine.

Zuzana Sumbalová Koledová has passed the second round of evaluation of her project proposal in the European Research Council call supporting independent careers of outstanding young scientists. This is the first ERC grant proposal ever which proceeded to the second round at FM MU.

Šárka Pospíšilová, Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies, presented awards for excellence in doctoral studies at MU to 33 graduates and their supervisors. Among the awardees were 6 graduates from the Faculty of Medicine. 

Anna Jašová, a student of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University, won the national competition for the best bachelor's thesis in the Midwifery programme.

Since 1988, 1^st December has been World AIDS Day. It was declared in 1988 by the World Health Organization (WHO) to spread awareness about the deadly disease AIDS, to encourage the fight against the disease and HIV, and last but not least to commemorate its victims.

An academic clinical trial for patients with the rare congenital disease epidermolysis bullosa (EB), also known as butterfly skin disease, has been initiated in collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University in Brno and the University Hospital Brno. The aim of the clinical trial is to test the drug's safety and obtain the first information on the extent to which the administered cell therapy promotes the healing of chronic wounds.
