Dear colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen,
we are entering a new semester in these extremely unstable and pandemic struck times. I would like to use the opportunity to address you through this employee newsletter.
I want to sincerely thank you for your selfless work in making sure lectures were taught during the autumn semester. For almost a year, we have been facing this unfavourable situation and only thanks to your personal and professional efforts we are able to continue with the necessary education of our future generation of doctors and medical staff. I am proud that despite the unfavourable conditions, we were able to start lectures in SIMU, which now becomes another integral part of FM and thanks to this work we are able to provide a new and better form of education.
I believe, that even though the current situation is quite tense and uncertain, it is necessary to carry on with education in the upcoming semester, abiding by the rules we all had to abide by last semester. That means we will continue to use the exception, which will help us put a clinical and practical form of education into practice wherever possible.
I am also aware of the fact that the education of clinical fields must be adjusted to the current situation in respective clinics, regarding their involvement in the programme for covid patients care. However, I ask for maximum possible education taking place in given circumstances.
Personally, I am very concerned about not being able to ensure vaccinations for our lecturers of preclinical fields. I can honestly say that I repeatedly bring the attention to competent places to the fact that it is not possible to function well without the possibility of vaccinating all the employees of the Faculty of Medicine.
Let’s all take into account any further development of the situation, especially the statements of the Government of the Czech Republic, which are being prepared and discussed during this period of time. I will inform you about any potential changes in education.
Again, I would like to thank you all for your work and I wish you good health.
Yours sincerely, Martin Repko

Help us implement meaningful HR Award changes
|
|
At the end of last year, the HR Award team sent an Action Plan for the next 5 years to the European Commission, in connection with the effort to obtain a European award in the care of the staff of the Faculty of Medicine. The action plan was created thanks to the information that we had the opportunity to obtain directly from you during meetings at workplaces and from a questionnaire survey.
In the coming years, we will work on ten key areas. We will be pleased if you get involved in areas that are close to you and help us implement them. Each area has its own working group, in which you can participate and directly influence the planned changes. Take a look at all the topics and find the ones that interest you.

So far, donors from 6 Brno Universities have taken part in the event, in alphabetical order namely the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, Masaryk University, Mendel University in Brno, NEWTON College a.s., the University of Defence and the Brno University of Technology. Can we unite all 10 Universities of Brno by the end of the event?

The national CZECRIN network, supporting the implementation of academic clinical research in the Czech Republic, has been achieving it’s goals in recent months. The placement within the H2020 projects can be highlighted as a significant success, where CZECRIN took first place in the final evaluation of the number of participations within the involvement of the European Research Infrastructures Consortia (ERIC), as the Czech national node ECRIN-ERIC.
CZECRIN also ended last year with the publication of a new website. It thus offers a helping hand to boost the implementation of clinical research and offers the possibility of cooperation in the implementation of a research project, bringing the areas of clinical research closer to the general public. It is also adapting to the current situation and has prepared a website for comprehensible public awareness of the vaccine against COVID-19. The aim is to monitor side effects and the antibody and cellular response to vaccination through a post-marketing phase IV clinical study. The portal offers visitors frequently asked questions about vaccines and vaccinations, and encourages them to ask other questions that may come to mind. CZECRIN also established a separate web space for experts in the last year, which: is dedicated to clinical studies around COVID-19, maps the involvement of medical facilities within the CZECRIN network and serves publications and interesting links. This information has been available at the new address since the publication of new website.

International Interships for PhD students
Welcome Office is part of the Office for Quality of the Faculty of Medicine. It offers all kinds of support to foreign PhD students, applicants for English PhD study programmes and employees from abroad in settling the administrative matters before arriving in the Czech Republic. By communicating with the authorities and institutions, it will help you minimize the administrative and bureaucratic issues with getting the necessary documentation:
- It is the first place of contact with foreign PhD students with the Faculty of Medicine.
- It provides support before arriving in the Czech Republic, and it is available throughout their studies.
- It helps process visas, residence permits, recognition of education, finding accommodation, providing health insurance, and other practical issues related to living in the Czech Republic.
International Internships
Doctoral students are required to complete an internship abroad for at least one month during their studies. Ideally, students choose a foreign institution themselves in cooperation with their supervisor. The supervisor and their personal and professional contacts or experience with the institution usually play a key role when choosing the institution. Itis also possible to choose from the offer of partner institutions that have long-term cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine in the field of science and research or, for example, trough the Erasmus programme.
The costs of the internship are not covered by the Faculty of Medicine, but it can be financed from various scholarship and grant programmes. Petr Bureš from Faculty Welcome Office will help you to choose the appropriate programme and fill in the application for funding. Even during your stay abroad, you remain a student of the Faculty of Medicine, which means that you still get your scholarship.

Join us on Yammer
Since March, we have been launching two discussion and information groups on the Yammer platform for PhD studies and R&D at the FM MU. Our goal is to use the power of the community and have an open space for sharing. Get involved, whether you're in the picture, and you can ask questions or add your own news that you want to be disseminated or discussed within the faculty.
Do you have a suggestion on what topics we should open in these groups? Start your own group discussion or contact the group administrator Mgr. Jana Sedláková or Mgr. Gabriela Tomaštíková.
