SIMU Has Completed Another Phase of Modernization

Dozens of specialized training devices and patient simulators, as well as a defibrillator, stretchers and equipment essential for setting up a mobile room for medical simulations. These are just some of the items purchased by the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University as part of the project “Strengthening and Developing the Capacity of SIMU at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University for the Needs of Postgraduate, Specialist and Lifelong Education of Physicians and Non-Medical Healthcare Professionals,” representing another significant investment in simulation-based education.

“The equipment we have acquired is used in existing as well as newly accredited specialist and lifelong education courses,” says Petr Štourač, Head of the Department of Simulation Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University. Whether it is a hand hygiene training simulator, simulators for mechanical ventilation, or an abdominal module for Caesarean section used with a pregnant patient simulator, the new equipment is primarily used in the fields of anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, ophthalmology, epidemiology and hygiene, and gastroenterology.

“This is state-of-the-art medical equipment, as well as highly realistic simulators and training devices that enable participants to deepen their existing competencies and skills, while also acquiring entirely new knowledge and mastering new techniques,” Petr Štourač continues. As a result, course participants become not only more competitive in the labour market, but, above all, they can provide patients with an even higher level of safety and more effective medical and non-medical healthcare.

The project, funded with nearly CZK 20 million by the European Union through the Recovery and Resilience Facility under the Czech Republic’s National Recovery Plan, follows on from a successful investment under the Operational Programme Research, Development and Education (OP RDE), which enabled the construction of the Simulation Centre of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University between 2017 and 2022. Every year, dozens of courses are held there as part of lifelong education for physicians and specialist education. Over the six years of SIMU's operation, more than 4,000 participants have taken part in these courses.
