The SENSITISE Project and CZECRIN Organise an International Workshop on Inclusivity in Clinical Trials
The main objective of the ERASMUS+ SENSITISE project is to develop a comprehensive curriculum to increase awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion in clinical trials. The project seeks to support the participation of underrepresented groups in clinical research, thereby improving the quality, generalisability, and transferability of research outcomes.
The international project is now entering its final phase, which includes a series of workshops entitled “How to make trials more inclusive ”. These workshops are primarily intended for professionals involved in the design, planning, conduct, and reporting of clinical trials, but they are also open to students and anyone interested in the topic. The upcoming workshop will take place on 19 May 2026 in Prague. It is organised by the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, in collaboration with partners from University College Cork, University of Aberdeen, and ECRIN. The event will provide a platform for sharing experiences, best practices, and the latest knowledge in the field.
The workshop will be followed by a joint project meeting of representatives from all partner institutions involved in the consortium, namely the coordinating University College Cork, University of Aberdeen, Masaryk University, and ECRIN. The project builds on long-standing collaboration among partners who have previously (together with additional collaborators) successfully implemented several international ERASMUS+ projects, such as CONSCIOUS, CONSCIOUS II, and the ongoing GREEN-TRIALS. The team at the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, includes experts from the Department of Pharmacology and colleagues from the Project Support Office, contributing to effective connections between academia and international research infrastructures.
The overarching aim of the project teams involved is to develop and deliver education and training focused on clinical trial methodology, high-quality study design, rigorous implementation, and transparent reporting and dissemination of results. These activities are designed for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students in biomedical and health-related fields, as well as for professionals engaged in clinical research, including patient partners.
The SENSITISE project (incluSivE cliNical trialS: traIning and educaTion to increase Involvement of under-SErved groups) is an educational initiative focused on inclusivity in clinical trials, funded by the ERASMUS+ programme of the European Union and implemented from 1 December 2023 to 30 November 2026. At the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, the project is led by Jitka Rychlíčková from the Department of Pharmacology. The project is coordinated by University College Cork (Ireland) under the leadership of Frances Shiely, with partners including ECRIN – European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (France), Masaryk University (Czech Republic), and the University of Aberdeen (United Kingdom).
