Šárka Pospíšilová, Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies, presented the award to 31 graduates of Masaryk University doctoral studies at a ceremony on 7 November in the Karel Engliš Grand Auditorium at the Faculty of Law. They were selected based on several criteria. These include the successful completion of studies within the standard period of four years, extended by a maximum of one year, and the simultaneous acquisition of high-quality research results included in the dissertation.
The following were awarded for LF MU:
- Vasileios Apostolopoulos, supervisor Pavel Janíček, study programme Surgery and Reproductive Medicine. Theoretically, experimentally and clinically, the PhD student in his research demonstrated the same quality of two materially and financially different types of knee arthroplasty.
- Veronika Fedorová, supervisor Dáša Bohačiaková, study programme Biomedical Sciences. As part of her thesis, the PhD student studied the early development of the human nervous system and its capacity for self-renewal.
- Michael Theodor Grey, supervisor Ivan Rektor, study programme Neurosciences. His research investigated the consequences of the increase in white matter lesion volume due to old age and in patients with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
- Pavla Hujová, supervisor Tomáš Freiberger, consultant Přemysl Souček, study programme Biomedical Sciences. During her studies, she experimentally and with the help of a wide range of methods investigated factors affecting splicing aberrations of genes, which are mutations among the common causes of Mendelian inherited diseases.
- Tereza Prokopová, supervisor Andrea Pokorná, consultant Jan Maláska, study programme Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Management. During her studies, she investigated the phenomenon of moral distress in healthcare workers in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and palliative care and its delivery in the intensive care setting.
- Karolína Poredská, supervisor Vladimír Zbořil, study programme Internal Medicine. She has been researching Crohn's disease and its reappearance after surgical removal of the affected part of the intestine.
