Gain the most important insights from our participation in the workshop "Attracting International Postdocs," organized in late May by the Personnel Management Department of Rector ´s Office in collaboration with Czexpats in Science.
The workshop addressed topics such as promotion, recruitment, and onboarding of international postdocs. The event aimed to gather inspiration from professionals with diverse international experiences as postdocs. The main objective of Czexpats in Science is to connect Czech scientists abroad with each other as well as with scientists and relevant institutions in the Czech Republic. Additionally, they strive to assist scientists abroad in navigating the Czech scientific environment, facilitate their return to the Czech setting, provide long-term expatriates the opportunity to positively inspire and influence Czech science, and support their mobility, primarily by sharing experiences and information.
In the first part of the workshop, Matouš Glanc, director of Czexpats in Science, discussed the definition of the postdoc position, its significance and benefits, and ways to attract and engage quality candidates. He also focused on the specifics of onboarding and adaptation processes. This was followed by concrete experiences shared by postdocs, specifically Czech female scientists currently working abroad. The discussion with these scientists allowed participants to ask about all aspects of the postdoc position that interest them.
So, what are the specific tips for attracting and engaging quality candidates and how should their adaptation be approached? What is important to them, and what do postdocs need?
Another workshop will follow in the fall, focusing on processes of development, career paths, evaluation, motivation, and offboarding of postdocs, which we will share with you again.
Are you interested in what else we discussed during the workshop? Check out Matouš Glanc's entire presentation, which also includes tips on where to find new postdocs. We also attach interesting articles on this topic.

A team of scientists led by the head of the research group at the Department of Biology, Nicola Silva, has made a significant achievement in research into the reduced or impaired function of the Synaptonemal complex, which may be one of the causes of sterility. The paper by an international team of authors was published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications in March 2025.
