achievements
Lumír Krejčí is a new member of the European Molecular Biology Organization EMBO. Head of the research group at the Department of Biology, also active at the Faculty of Science, he focuses on studying mechanisms of DNA replication protection during cell division. He is also co-organiser of the Mendel Lectures series, which regularly brings world Nobel Prize winners to Brno. He is also behind the Bioskop project, which regularly opens laboratories to primary and secondary school children. More about our achievements here.
science in practice
Michal Eid, PhD candidate and doctor from the Internal Hematology and Oncology Clinic in an interview about precision medicine and personalized cancer treatment. The Centre for Precision Medicine has started to operate at the University Hospital Brno, the purpose of which is to advance the level of personalised cancer treatment. The Centre connects and coordinates research and clinical activities of experts from various fields. You can read more about applied research here.
article of the month
Article by authors from the Institute of Histology and Embryology in Nature Communications. Zuzana Holubcova's research team from the Institute of Histology and Embryology of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University, in collaboration with colleagues from Reprofit International, a clinic specialising in assisted reproduction, published the results of their joint research on early embryonic development in the prestigious journal Nature Communications at the end of July. The first author is PhD student Volodymyr Porokh. An overview of all outstanding publications can be found here.

Ondřej Slabý guest of Lucie Výborná on Czech Radio. The Head of the Institute of Biology of the Faculty of Biology of MU was a guest of Lucie Výborná on Czech Radio Radiožurnál. They discussed precision medicine, personalized treatment of rare diseases, cancer research, and new trends in cancer treatment. Professor Slabý is also the scientific director of the National Institute for Cancer Research and the Centre for Precision Medicine at the University Hospital Brno.

Monika Pávková Goldbergová, head of the Metals in Medicine research group. Professor Pavková Goldbergová's research from the Institute of Pathological Physiology focuses on the use of metals and nanostructures in implantology and their effect on the organism at the cellular and tissue level. Interdisciplinary collaborations with biological and technical disciplines have recently resulted in two outstanding publications in the journal Scientific Reports published by Springer Nature:

Only dead fish swim with the stream. 66th episode of the Stetoskop podcast with the former dean of our faculty, former director of the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute, politician, promoter of vertical swimming and fisherman Professor Jan Žaloudík. In the first week of January, Forbes magazine published its regular overview of the Best Doctors in the Czech Republic 2026. Once again, the list includes physicians who are associated with our faculty through their academic and scientific activities: Petr Štourač, head of the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Resuscitation at Brno University Hospital and the Department of Simulation Medicine at our faculty, and Miloš Holánek from the Department of Comprehensive Cancer Care at the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute.
