Recruitment at FM MU: Data and highlights in 2024

To operate effectively, the faculty needs capable and motivated staff, which is why recruitment is one of its key personnel priorities. High-quality selection of employees is our hallmark and affects not only the day-to-day running of the faculty but also its future. We systematically focus on recruitment at the MU Faculty of Medicine and have been tracking key data regularly since 2021. How did we perform in the past year? Here is a summary of the most interesting findings.

More than a third of qualified applicants for academic positions learned about or applied to the faculty based on a personal recommendation. This trend has remained steady for academic positions for the third consecutive year. Applicants for non-academic positions most often come to us via the university website and through the Jobs.cz and Prace.cz portals. Half of the successful candidates come to the faculty from outside the university.

The number of newly advertised positions at the faculty has been increasing annually, with an average rise of 10 % over the past three years. At the same time, we have successfully attracted foreign applicants, who constitute around 30 % of all applicants. Their success rate has risen significantly, with 26 % of successful candidates in 2024 being foreign nationals—twice as many as in previous years. Successful foreign applicants who joined the faculty last year came from Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, the USA, Canada, and Australia, among others. In previous years, successful foreign applicants were predominantly from Slovakia, followed by candidates from Syria and Ukraine.

We strive for a balanced composition of selection committees and, therefore, emphasize equal representation of women and men. This approach has gradually contributed to an increasing proportion of women on selection committees. We also ensure a high level of professionalism among committee members, which is why they receive training on the fundamental principles of interviewing candidates.

Since December 2023, we have been actively collecting feedback from candidates in the selection process, providing us with valuable insights to improve our recruitment procedures. The results so far have been very positive:

Based on our experience and feedback, we have updated and supplemented the evaluation form for applicants in 2025 to better reflect candidates' suggestions and comments.

Selection procedures at our faculty are governed by the MU Selection Procedure Regulations and the Rules of selection procedures at FM MU. All necessary information about the recruitment process can be found on the Career at FM MU website.
