February 2025 in Science at our faculty
We bring you a selection of the most interesting things in science and research at our faculty in the shortest month of 2025
We bring you a selection of the most interesting things in science and research at our faculty in September. The beginning of the academic year 2024/2025 was also very eventful.
achievements
Two projects by Ales Hampel and Pavel Krejčí were selected among the best in the ten-year existence of the AZV. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Agency for Medical Research of the Czech Republic, its chairman, Ondřej Slabý, awarded nine scientists whose projects were selected as the most successful during the agency's existence. In September, Aleš Hampl was also awarded the Babák Medal of the Czech-Slovak Biological Society.
science into practice
Kateřina Slabá and her colleagues was at the birth of the Outpatient Clinic for Pediatric Patients without Diagnosis. In cooperation with our Institute of Biology, the CREATIC Centre of Excellence and CEITEC, she focuses her research on patients suspected of having a genetic disease but has not yet been diagnosed. She described the activities of the outpatient clinic in an interview for the website vzacni.cz.
article of the month
A team of scientists in the research group of Dáša Bohačiaková from the Department of Histology and Embryology has discovered a new genetic mutation that affects the onset and progression of Alzheimer's disease. The results, which could mean new treatment options for this neurodegenerative disease, were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
let´s introduce
Alemeh Zamani, head of the Choroid Plexus Diseases research group. Dr. Zamani is researching the Choroid Plexus, a key brain structure responsible for producing cerebrospinal fluid and forming a barrier between blood and cerebrospinal fluid, at the Department of Anatomy. The aim is to research its dysfunction, which is related to neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and chemotherapy-induced neuropathy. She collaborates with high school students, among others, who are researchers of the SOČ. One of the students, Evelína Voleská, won the Czech Headline 2024 award with Česká hlavička 2024 award.
don´t miss
What can you look forward to in October? For example, another Breakfast with a Scientist, the 2nd conference of the National Institute for Neurological Research or lectures from the Mendel Lectures series. We will also be participating in the Velvet Innovation Meetup and the Core Facility Day in Life Sciences. For an overview of all events, please see our events calendar.
stetoskop podcast
In September, 2 Stetoskop podcasts were released. The first one was an interview with Julia Dobrovolná Vašků about stress research and how the love of science runs in her family. In the second one, Miroslav Světlák together with Klara Chládková present a project for patients and doctors "Before I go to the doctor".
