The most favourite webinar within the course SPARK webinar series was the webinar on "Personalised Immunotherapy for Treatment of Rare Diseases", which was led by representatives from the CREATIC Centre of Excellence, Regina Demlová and Dalibor Valík.
Based on the results from the satisfaction survey, this particular webinar captivated the students the most. They mentioned that the webinar was highly inspiring for them, not only because the topic of personalized medicine is becoming one of the fastest-growing areas in the field, but also because they are either interested in or already engaged in this topic themselves. The webinar focused on rare diseases and personalized treatment tailored to the individual needs of the patient. Additionally, Associate Professor Regina Demlová and Professor Dalibor Valík concentrated on advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and their regulation. The presentation also summarized the drug development process from discovery to FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approval, and last but not least, included the goals of the CREATIC center.
CREATIC (Central European Advanced Therapy and Immunotherapy Centre) is a project under the Horizon Europe Teaming for Excellence program, through which Masaryk University has established a collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology, Leipzig University, and the University of Copenhagen. This collaboration aims to create a joint R&D center dedicated to ATMP research. The center's purpose is to research and develop ATMPs for undiagnosed untreatable rare diseases, pediatric patients with high-risk tumors, and oncology patients for whom this treatment is suitable.
The SPARK webinar series course is organized under the auspices of the SPARK program network. The SPARK program was established at Stanford School of Medicine in 2006 to facilitate the translation of biomedical research into clinical practice in the form of new therapeutic and diagnostic methods for patients. The program provides top-notch consulting through a network of experts and helps scientists move their results closer to practical application. This network of programs offers member institutions educational events in the field of translational research and so-called transferable skills.
