Year 2021 in Research and Development

What was 2021 like in research and development at the Faculty of Medicine? What can we expect in 2022? Read our short look back.

We have achieved many successes in 2021:

  • 62 AZV projects submitted

    A record number of applications have been submitted to the Czech Health Research Council:

    • 42 projects from the position of LF MU as the principal investigator
    • 20 projects with LF MU as co-investigator
  • 110 millions for AZV projects

    18 projects were supported in the 2020 call, with a total of CZK 110 114 000 in allocated funds.

    In 2019 11 projects were supported, in 2018 then 6 AZV projects.

  • 57 publications supported by the Publication Fund

    The Excellence Publications Fund supported 57 publications by first or corresponding authors from the FM MU, classified in the Q1 and Q2 categories of Web of Science for a total of CZK 3,215,000.

  • 468 articles in journals with impact factor

    468 articles were published in journals with impact factor*. 

    *Data valid on 31. 1. 2022

  • 3 highest rated publications in Module 1

    3 outputs authors from the FM MU received the highest possible rating in Module 1.

  • 2 new InGA LF schemes

    The LF MU Internal grant agency has expanded by two new schemes:

    • LF Accelerate to support applied research (3 projects supported in total
    • Postdoc to attract prospective junior researchers
  • 5 new research groups

    5 new research groups were established at the Department of Histology and Embryology.

    In total, there are 18 research groups at the FM MU.

  • 32 new associate professors and professors

    In 15 scientific fields, the academic community has grown by:

    • 20 new associate professors
    • 12 new professors
  • Applied research results

    • 2 trademarks
    • 1 European patent
    • 1 licence agreement
  • Prestigious international grants

    A project application has been submitted to the prestigious international Horizon Europe scheme, Teaming for Excellence. The CREATIC project was selected together with 31 other proposals (out of 116) to the second round. In the Czech Republic, 4 project applications were advanced, 2 of them from MU (LF MU and CEITEC).

    Academics from LF MU have participated in dozens of international projects from Horizon 2020, NIH, Wellcome Trust, Erasmus+, Interreg, etc.

  • What to expect in 2022?

    The biggest challenge this year will be the first faculty and university-wide evaluation of science, research, and doctoral studies. All theoretical and clinical departments and all doctoral programmes will undergo internal evaluation.
