The information given in this article is based on the results of investigation which was performed in the USA between 1992 and 1995 with the aim to identify typical interventions in individual nursing clinical areas. Another investigation studied was performed in Korea to identify NIC interventions typical for surgical nursing. Methods: Literature research in order to find the studies focused on the implementation of the nursing interventions classification in surgical nursing followed by a descriptive analysis of the information obtained. Results: The total number of 26 interventions was chosen in all the investigations as interventions used in surgical nursing practice. In each of the domains of the taxonomic structures, one intervention was chosen as typical for the surgical nursing area. 25 classes out of the 30 classes of the taxonomic structure were represented by at least one intervention. Conclusions: The information obtained became the starting point for designing the investigation which should detect NIC interventions typical for surgical sphere in the Czech Republic.
