Description The high incidence of DM in the elderly (including micro- and macrovascular complications) helps to reduce the chance of survival. This shortens in diabetes 50-59 of 6-7 years, between 60-69 for 4-5 years and more than 70 by about three years. From the above it is clear that the overall effect of comorbidities elderly diabetics is crucial. Increasing age at DM is also associated with more frequent hospitalizations due to rising polymorbidity and extended hospital stay compared with younger vintages.
