Description People are social animals and it is important for our everyday life to understand the thoughts and feelings of others.Theory of mind (the ability to imagine mental states of others) and empathy (ability to infer and share feelings of others) are perhaps the two most studied components of social cognition. Persons with schizophrenia often experience problems in social functioning, which is connected to impaired social cognition. The study of patients with schizophrenia enables us to better understand the mechanisms of social cognition and also to design more effective therapy methods.
