Description Aim: To find out: a) how are patients educated preoperatively, b) what are their emotions before procedure and causes, c) how are they satisfied with the education by medical staff. Methods: Structured interviews analysed by open coding. Results: 15 patients participated in the study. All participants had previous experience with hospitalization, 11 patients had undergone a surgery. All the patients stated that they had been informed about the nature of their disease and management options. 11 patients (73%) expressed verbally their fear of the surgery. According to the results, the patients would welcome not only verbal education but also other forms of educational resources. Conclusions: The study confirms the necessity of an adequate preoperative education, particularly taking into account individual patients´ needs.
