Description The article aims to describe changes occurring during aging, their impact on the nutritional requirements of seniors, and possibilities of their reduction and postponing. These changes affect body composition, nutrient absorption, and diet itself. Usually they lead to reduction in energy requirements, while nutrient requirements remain relatively unchanged or are even increased. Reducing energy intake must not lead to reduction in intake of other nutrients. There are mentioned selected nutrients whose absorption is particularly disturbed or are particularly important in elderly, and they are in need to watch their adequate supply: vitamins B12, D and C, calcium and iron. A number of adverse changes, particularly in body composition, but also lot of others, can be prevented by active lifestyle, especially physical activity.
