Description Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is an established procedure for many acquired and congenital disorders of the hematopoietic system. Progress in the field of novel target drugs was done in hematooncological diseases, but the performance of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is still very important treatment method in many diagnoses. The hematological malignancies are still the main indications for transplantations (over 90% of all transplant indications). Main diagnoses for allogeneic transplantations are acute leukemias and myelodysplastic syndrome, main diagnoses for autologous transplantations are multiple myeloma and lymphomas. The complex problematic of hematopoietic stem cell transplantations is presented in this article, including of the main types of transplantations and donors, sources of hematopoietic cells, conditioning regimens, risk factors and categories of transplant indications. Overview of recent indications for hematopoietic stem cell transplantations in Europe and Czech Republic is presented in this review.
