Description Ovarian cancer is the most common cause of death in gynaecological malignancies. The disease is diagnosed in advanced stage with peritoneal carcinomatosis in most cases. The treatment is based on primary cytoreductive surgery followed by chemotherapy. Benefit of intraperitoneal chemotherapy in frontline treatment has been confirmed. Currently, the increasing interest in potential benefit of radical cytoreductive surgery plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in frontline ovarian cancer treatment and therapy of recurrencies is noted. The results of recent trials are limited and heterogenous. Results of ongoing phase III prospective trials are expected.
