Description Intensive care is an independent, dynamically developing field of medicine, which comprehensively takes care of patients with already established or imminent acute organ failure. It is a multidisciplinary field that extends beyond the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Intensive care has several definitions, however, the connecting element is the organ dysfunction (threat to the so-called vital functions) of the patient and the possibility of providing organ-specific support.
