Description This work is based on data from the FAR-NHL registry (FARmacology and NeuroHumoraL activation). It is a multicenter database of patients with stable heart failure with reduced EF LV <50%. A total number of 1,100 patients were included. The most commonly administered diuretic was furosemide alone or in combination (80.6%). A total of 746 (67.8%) patients also received verospirone or eplerenone. Prescription of diuretics increased statistically significantly with NYHA disease severity. High doses of furosemide were administered to patients with higher NYHA classification, lower EF (25 vs. 30 %; p lower than;0.001), higher NT-proBNP (1,176 vs. 378 pg / ml; lower than 0.001) and higher creatinine (102 vs. 93 MUmol / l; lower than 0.001). The data show that the trend in prescribing and dosing of diuretics primarily reflects the severity of heart failure and renal function and emphasizes the need for a very individual approach to setting the right dose for each patient.
