| Description | The aim of therapy at the age of DM is to improve the quality of life. The DM 1 will absolutely always indicated insulin therapy. Treatment options represent a DM2: diet, physical activity, oral antidiabetics, insulin, and education. Objectives good compensation for fully self-sufficient old diabetic (about two thirds) are not significantly different from younger ones. Limited self-sufficient group represents about one third of older outpatients with diabetes. Most of their problems is not directly caused by DM, but cardiac diseases, respiratory, and other locomotional. If they diet and exercise are not enough to compensate, it is appropriate to use modern oral antidiabetic drugs (OAD). |
