Description The authors report a case of sudden death of 14-year-old girl. Child dies shortly after transporting to The Department of Paediatric Anaesthesiology, University Hospital Brno, within continuing resuscitation. Medical records show a two days lasting abdominal pain, repeated vomiting and fever before the death. In the autopsy findings, pulmonary edema and myocardial blotchy look of the ventricular septum and left ventricle are pre-eminent, already with naked-eye evident v.s. haemorrhages. The extensive histological examination, including immunohistochemistry, was carried out, the myocardium was further tested bacteriologically and also genetically - molecular detection of pathogens. Using these tests, acute myocarditis of viral etiology has been diagnosed - serious co-infection of herpesviruses 6 and Parvovirus B19 (HHV-6 + PVB19). In addition, however, the lesions of diffuse interstitial hemorrhage in multiple sections of the myocardium of the ventricular septum and the entire left ventricle were detected by histological examination. This finding was evaluated as an atypically large traumatic changes after intensive cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the field of preexisting edema and inflammatory changes of the myocardium.
