Description The aim of the paper is to present the experience with a navigation system PercuNav for Philips iU22 ultrasound device. The system allows the use of previous CT, MR or PET scans for combined real-time display of ultrasound and other modalities and doing navigated interventions. The system includes electromagnetic field generator and sensors, which are placed on the patient and on the probe. First image registration is done, which requires marking the same point in the ultrasound image and in the previous exam (e.g. CT). This can be done by marking 3 points or a single point in the same plane on CT and US. After registration is done user can simultaneously watch live ultrasound image and corresponding image from previous CT scan or view both modalities fused in one image. CT scans can be used to simplify searching for a particular lesion on US. With combined ultrasound-CT imaging doppler mode or contrast enhanced ultrasound mode can be used. So fuison of CT and CEUS can be done. Another option is to use image fusion for the planning and performing interventions - biopsy or RFA. To do this, special coaxial needle is used. This needle contains sensor in its tip and can thus track the position and direction of the needle throughout the deployment, enabling better planning and monitoring of the trajectory of the needle. Our experience includes using fusion in search of small liver and renal lesions combining with CEUS and navigation for liver biopsies.
