Description Introduction: Aggressive form of recurrent laryngeal papillomatosis in childhood is a life threatening condition. This illness can break out as early as in first year of life. Larynx in children is significantly smaller than in adults and lesions narrowing its lumen can cause severe dyspnoea. In serious cases of recurrent papillomatosis it is necessary to ensure airway patency via tracheostomy. Methods: In the last five years, two girls suffering from severe form of recurrent laryngeal papillomatosis were treated at Children ENT Clinic of Faculty Hospital Brno. Four years old girl, who was diagnosed with the illness at the age of two years, and one year old baby. Both girls were treated via microlaryngeal excision. Procedures were repeated and periods among them grew shorter. Genotypisation of excided papillomas was performed. In both cases the causing agent of the illness was found to be HPV 11. Both patients were vaccinated by Silgard – commercially available HPV vaccine. Three doses were adiministered in a vaccination schedule: 0th, 2nd and 6th month. Results: Older girl was vaccinated aged four and a half year. Papillomas vanished after the administration of the second dose. There were no relapses since, and the girl is currently under outpatient observation. The younger girl suffering from very aggressive of recurrent papillomatosis, was vaccinated at the age of 20 months. Remission was found after three months since the third dose was administered. Three months later, there were no papillomas present in her larynx. Conclusion: HPV vaccination seems to be a hopeful method for treatment of severe recurrent laryngeal papillomatosis even in the youngest children.
