Description The authors present a case of a six-year old boy with mild mental retardation (MMR), which was diagnosed late. They describe the complexity of this issue, the uneasy position of a general practitioner for children and adolescents (GPCHA), who plays a key role in the diagnosis of MMR, and parents who have a disabled child. They present problems in the care of children with MMR and the important role of clinical child psychologist and speech therapist. GPCHA cooperation with these non-medical disciplines is underestimated and usually does not apply.
