| Description | Steroid diabetes belongs into the same group as other specific types of diabetes. It is associated with an overproduction of steroid hormones - glucocorticoids in particular - or with their therapeutic use, which is quite frequent. Development of steroid diabetes is associated with the influence of glucocorti¬coids on saccharide metabolism, especially insulin resistance. Diagnostics do not significantly differ from general diabetes mellitus, with the addition of needing to show hypercorti-solism or a history of corticoid use. Therapy can vary, from drugs influencing insulin resistance, to intensified insulin therapy, which has its specifics in dosage timing. |
