Description Dizziness and instability with major consequences-falls are becoming a major problem in health care. Approximately 30% of people older than 65 years of age and 50% of people older than 80 years of age suffer a fall each year. The risk of falls and resulting serious injury increases with age, although they are not an unavoidable consequence of aging. Falls are associated with increased morbidity and mortality, increasing the economic costs of health care and are among the reasons for placement in senior long-term care. This issue is closely linked with the demographic projections in the Czech Republic, which assume a gradual increase in the number of elderly people, and that is why it must be given due attention. Effective treatment requires a multidisciplinary approach.
