Description Aim: To find the relationship between individual stages of development of cervical vertebrae assessed with Cervical Vertebral Maturation (CVM) method according to Baccetti and morphology of sinus frontalis. To verify possible use of sinus frontalis parameters in assessing skeletal maturity of an individual. Material and method: The sample included 840 individuals with cephalometric picture (420 women, 420 men) divided into six groups CS 1 – CS 6 according to cervical vertebrae developmental stage. Area, height, width and index of sinus frontalis (proportion of height and width of sinus frontalis on lateral X-ray of the skull) were also evaluated in cephalograms. Results: Area, height and width of sinus frontalis increase with age (p<0.0001). The differences between men and women are statistically significant (p<0.0001) and correlate with developmental stages of cervical vertebrae (p<0.0001). Sinus frontalis index is higher in women (p=0.053). The relationship between developmental stages of vertebrae and sinus frontalis index was not proved. Therefore, sinus frontalis cannot be used as the indicator of pre-pubertal, pubertal and post-pubertal growth stage.
