Description Gliomas are one of the most common primary brain tumours. Despite of great progress in all medical disciplines, the prognosis of patients with this disease has not improved significantly in the last 15 years. The treatment strategy still relies on maximum safe tumour resection, radiotherapy and chemotherapy temozolomide (Stupp regimen). The decisionmaking process must take into account not only the known clinical and laboratory prognostic and predictive factors, but also the patient‘s preferences. Given the complexity of the issue, in which more than one discipline is involved, close multidisciplinary cooperation is required. Neither targeted therapy nor immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors have found much use. However, intensive research is still ongoing. The aim of this educational review is to summarize the current guidelines in the treatment of gliomas.
