Description The present publication is based on experience with the most common symptoms with which a child comes to the otorhinolaryngologist. It does not aim at a complete and detailed description of all possible symptoms and their examination and management, but provides guidance on the diagnosis and management of the most common diseases and their symptoms and manifestations in paediatric otorhinolaryngology. It is intended for medical students, otorhinolaryngologists, pediatricians and general practitioners. In the past and at present, paediatric otorhinolaryngology was and is a specialised specialty after training and certification in otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery. The specifics of the focus of paediatric otorhinolaryngology are clear: the paediatric patient, especially from the group of the youngest children (infants, toddlers), is not independent, cannot express himself verbally (because he cannot do so yet), and so all diagnosis must be made on the basis of the doctor's experience and information obtained from the parents, mostly from the mother. It requires an experienced and empathetic physician and careful listening to the parents ('the mother is always right'). The paediatrician is the co-diagnosis partner for the paediatric otorhinolaryngologist when making a diagnosis of a sick child. The pediatric pediatrician routinely monitors the child's development and possible problems, providing invaluable information to the pediatric otorhinolaryngologist. The paediatrician alone is able to resolve a large number of uncomplicated conditions, and the paediatric otorhinolaryngologist comes in when there are persistent problems treated with basic procedures or when instrumental examination and surgical intervention are necessary.
