| Description | The aim of this document is to help healthcare professionals in managing the management of patients with heart failure in accordance with the available evidence. There are a large number of clinical trials whose results help to select optimal preventive and therapeutic options for patients with heart failure. The document can thus provide practical, evidence-based recommendations. Separately the different phenotypes of heart failure are discussed their diagnosis and management of treatment. The therapeutic recommendations summarised in the tables do not neglect the expected effect of treatment, the class of recommendation and the level of evidence. Tabular recommendations for patients with reduced ejection fraction are aimed at influencing morbidity and mortality; symptomatic effects are highlighted in the text and/or web appendices of the original document. In the web appendices, it is also possible to find studies that recommendations are based on. The diagnostic indications include suggested tests that should be performed for all patients with heart failure, and tests that are appropriate only in certain circumstances. Because diagnostic procedures are rarely the subject of randomised clinical trials, most of the evidence is at the level of grade C knowledge (expert consensus). The recommendations presented here are procedures are focused on the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure rather than its prevention, which is the focus of many other European Society of Cardiology (ESC) recommended practices. |
