Description Fos proteins are important components of the AP-1 transcription factor that participate in regulation of gene expression in cells exposed to various extracellular stimuli. The stimulus can induce dramatic changes of the cell phenotype, sucxg as change of growth rate, differentiation or apoptosis. Serious defects that can result in malignant transformation of the cell often manifest an inappropriate function of the Fos protein. The aim of this work is to summarize actual knowledge on structure, regulation and function of this important protein that is involved in the determination of cellular fate.
