| Description | Respiratory failure (MS) is a common reason for admitting patients to intensive care. Its etiology is diverse, and therefore proper diagnosis is essential for the treatment and further course of the disease. The severity of the symptoms (and the urgency of the situation) can vary considerably depending on the cause and extent of the disability. The immediate risk is mainly hypoxemia, which leads to tissue hypoxia and organ failure. The treatment of respiratory failure has predominantly contributed to the development of intensive care, so the therapeutic options are wide: from "simple" administration of an O2 mask, through non-invasive ventilation and UPV to currently available extracorporeal methods. |
