Description The paper focused on two Latin herbals that originated in Central Europe in the 14th century. Both became the most widely copied medical texts of their kind in 15th-century Bohemia, and in Czech and German translations, they spread among lay readers interested in phytotherapy. Special attention was paid to the medicinal effects of eight types of vegetables described in these herbals, compared with findings of recent medical studies.
