The Cancer Biology research group delves into the molecular regulation of melanoma, primarily centred on mechanisms that suppress the tumour suppressor p53 - especially via its negative regulators Mdm2 and MdmX - and the regulation of the RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK signalling pathway, whose aberrant activation drives aggressive melanoma growth. They investigate how these pathways mediate melanoma cell survival under stress and how resistance to targeted therapies (such as BRAF and MEK inhibitors) emerges, aiming to uncover new molecular targets for more effective, tailored therapeutic strategies.
