Description The incidence of listeriosis is increasing in EU member states, leading to stricter microbiological criteria for ready-to-eat foods. Meat products intended for direct consumption are one of the significant vehicles for listeriosis infection. The study focused on Listeria monocytogenes isolates detected in meat products. Over five years, 40 isolates were obtained, most from heat-treated products. The isolates were genetically characterized and divided into three groups: hypervirulent, hypovirulent, and intermediate. Hypervirulent isolates pose a higher risk to public health. The study‘s results underscore the importance of thorough microbiological safety control of meat products.
