How can we develop high-quality teaching in palliative medicine, share best practice, and draw inspiration from new educational approaches? These were the key themes of the 2nd Day of Palliative Care Educators, held on 10 June 2026 at the Simulation Centre of the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Palliative and Supportive Care at the Faculty of Medicine MU, SIMU MUNI, and the Czech Society for Palliative Medicine.
The meeting brought together experts from hospitals, hospices, universities and community-based services, all united by a shared interest in advancing education in palliative care. The full-day programme offered inspiring lectures, practical teaching demonstrations, and ample opportunity for sharing experience and discussing current topics.
The morning session opened with Lukáš Knaute, a recipient of the Golden Amos award, who inspired attendees with his talk “How to Motivate: From the Classroom to Life”. This was followed by Ondřej Sláma, who provided an overview and analysis of the state of palliative medicine education at medical faculties in the Czech Republic in 2026. The morning concluded with Martina Klejnová, who introduced the IMPACT project: from European competencies to palliative care.
The afternoon programme focused on specific teaching methods and their application in practice. Participants were able to experience model lessons covering introductions to palliative medicine as well as the teaching of ethical topics, explore European educational tools, and discuss their potential use in the Czech context. Practical teaching of clinical skills was also included, demonstrating how theoretical knowledge can be effectively linked to everyday clinical practice.
The afternoon workshops were led by Ondřej Kopecký, Kateřina Rusinová, Radka Bužgová, Martin Loučka, Pavel Svoboda, Lucie Hrdličková, Jan Maláska, and Zuzana Kadlecová.
The day clearly demonstrated that sharing experience across institutions is one of the key prerequisites for the further development of high-quality education in palliative medicine.
We would like to thank all speakers, instructors and participants for their active involvement and look forward to the next meeting at the 3rd Day of Palliative Care Educators, which will take place on 9 June 2027.
